Our approach to Reiki training
With so many ways to use Reiki, fitting of the endless variations of the people using it, there are also many approaches to teaching. Generally people are attracted to the teacher who is right for them. Some people prefer to stick with the same teacher for all their levels of Reiki training, while others prefer to sample a variety of perspectives. It’s all about using your intuition and what’s right for you. With everyone in the world able to learn Reiki, there’s no need for Reiki Masters to fight over you, so relax and choose who you like best just now. To give you an idea, Light on the Path’s Reiki training has several distinguishing factors:
- We prefer to make Reiki training as accessible as possible while still recognising its value. This means we offer courses you can do in a day, and we also offer courses at weekends, on weekdays and sometimes in the evening. We can even take courses out to workplaces and community centres. We also aim to make our prices competitive and can offer discounts for people on lower incomes, or advise if you can get funding through Skills Development Scotland. We work to ensure we get a fit between your needs and ours, so everyone is happy. Just ask!
- As Reiki is all about bringing out the true you, we make sure our courses have a strong component of discussion with your own questions and experiences as well as time to practise. Each course covers the overall course programme, which we publish, but the way it plays out on the day depends on the interests of that days’ students.
- We see Reiki training as an ongoing process that you can build as you go, and we give you lots of opportunities to choose from. We run a variety of monthly Reiki shares so you can meet other people with different Reiki backgrounds, and see what they do, and we also run a monthly workshop programme on topics ranging from crystals to sacred sound, which allow you to meet with specialists in a variety of area.
- Related to this, we think a sensible amount of experience is important before you take on more responsibility with your Reiki out in the world, but we want you to feel a sense of achievement. With this in mind, we ensure that you have experience through casework. before you get a Reiki 2 certificate to get insurance or a Reiki Master Teacher certificate to teach. Reiki 1 and Master Practitioner course have less responsibility attached, so you receive a certificate directly after the course.
- Our emphasis is on the wide range of ways you can use Reiki in everyday life – for yourself and for others. Some of our students go on to be professional Reiki therapists, but many are just using it in their own lives and jobs. Self-development was the original aim of Reiki and we emphasise this by providing a range of tools, particularly in Reiki 2, which you can use to help yourself move forward.
- We honour all lineages of Reiki and we encourage a variety of learning.
We blend Japanese Reiki Techniques with western approaches and tools that complement Reiki. - We believe people blossom more in their Reiki if they feel part of a wider community of Reiki practitioners and masters, so we work very collaboratively and run a variety of events. Our Glasgow Reiki Meetup group has over 200 members and rising.
If that sounds like what you’re looking for, then by all means, get in touch and we can look for the best Reiki training to fit your needs and dreams. If you’re looking for a longer course, a course in the countryside or one that tells also offers the chance to study anatomy and physiology, we can point you to other training opportunities. Or let us know you would like that from us and we may well get something arranged in a few months. Reiki training in the Swedish countryside is on the cards..!
If you’re starting to get a taste for the exciting Reiki training possibilities, just get in touch and we’ll be delighted to answer any questions and find the best opportunties for you!

Hi There,
I am a Mum of 2 young children, a wife and a qualified Children’s Nurse. I currently work part time and do not wish to increase my hours in an employed environment. I would like the flexibility of self employment to fit in with my family life. For a while I have been thinking of training in Reiki and Reflexology with the intention to offer these treatments to paying clients.
I would also like to use these new skills to benefit my own lifestyle as will as my friends and family if and when requires.
On reading about the courses that you offer I have a few questions.
1. What preparation do you recommended prior to going on your Reiki 1 course?
2. How long after completing the Reiki1 course should you wait before undertaking the Reiki 2 course?
3. What is expected of casework?
Many Thanks
Emma MacDonald
Hi Emma
Thanks for the questions!
1) Reiki adapts itself to the individual and moves at the pace you can handle. Some people like to do a detox and get into the spirit of a major life change. I haven’t actually met anyone who has done this, but I expect that it enhances your sensitivity to the attunement process. Similarly if you haven’t been meditation and would like to start, you’re likely to get a head start with your peace of mind and spiritual sensitivity. That said, most people simply come with the intention to be open to Reiki, to change their life for the better and to embark on a bit of an adventure. Reiki is all about life and rediscovering how to live as your true self. It’s a lifelong journey of discovery, not one you’re going to complete in a week, so just being open to the concept of your highest good is the best thing for preparing.
2) Similarly, the length of time between Reiki 1 and Reiki 2 depends on the person and where you are in life. I’ve had students who did the two in a weekend, as I did, because life was essentially fine but they wanted to get on with the tools in Reiki 2. Others want to take their time to get to know the energy, or perhaps they have old issues that they need to clear out more gradually. Reiki is all about listening to your intuition and doing what’s right for you, so ask yourself and see what you feel. Because the Reiki 2 course entails casework which is likely to take a couple of months, so even if you chose to do the two courses in a weekend, you would be relatively experienced by the time you went out in the world to use your new skills.
3) The casework involves self-treatments, in-person treatments for others, distant treatments for others and/or issues, receiving treatments for yourself, and using a crystal grid for a month to send Reiki to many things and/or people, plus practising the meditation that the founder of Reiki taught his students.
Hope that gives you a good flavour of the courses. Any more questions, just ask.
Love and light
Sabrina
